Steve Bannon Holds News Conference Following Prison Sentencing

All victory to MAGA," said Steve Bannon as he and his lawyer David Schoen spoke to the press following a federal judge ruling that Mr. Bannon must report to prison on July 1st to serve a sentence for defying a Congressional subpoena from the House select January 6th committee. Mr. Bannon stated that this was only about shutting down the MAGA movement and shutting down former president Donald Trump. In addition, Mr. Bannon's lawyer David Schoen said that this case must go before the Supreme Court as it raises a dynamic separation of powers issue.

Atty. Gen. Garland on Combating Violent Crime
22 minutesAttorney General Merrick Garland discussed efforts to combat violent crime at the Chiefs of Police Executive Forum on Crime Guns, hosted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Washington, DC. He said FBI data showed a decrease in violent crime throughout the country in 2023, which included the steepest decline in homicides in over 50 years, and that this trend continued in 2024. The attorney general added, however, that 2023 marked a 10-year high for the number of officers assaulted or injured by firearms and paid tribute to those who lost their lives to gun violence. He then described specific initiatives the Justice Department undertook to combat such crime, such as using new technologies to pursue gun traffickers. ATF Director Steven Dettelbach delivered introductory remarks.

FBI Director Testifies on 2025 Budget Request
2 hours, 15 minutesFBI Director Christopher Wray testified on the agency's priorities and 2025 budget request before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science. The director addressed the recent budget cuts to the bureau's 2024 budget, saying the budget comes in "almost $500 million below what the FBI needs just to sustain our 2023 efforts this could not come at a worse time." Director Wray highlighted the areas impacted by the budget cuts, which include national security, violent crime prevention, and workforce development. Several topics were addressed, including border security, fentanyl interdiction, election security, cybersecurity and ransomware challenges, and threats posed by China, such as intellectual property theft.

President Biden Delivers Remarks on Border Security
11 minutes"I've come here today to do what Republicans in Congress refuse to do -- take the necessary steps to secure our border," said President Biden as he announced executive action on border security. He continued to say, "This ban will remain in place until the number of people trying to enter illegally can be reduced to a level that our system can effectively manage." In addition, the president discussed additional administrative actions through Homeland Security and the Department of Justice and urged Congress to pass legislation on border security. Following his remarks, President Biden responded to a reporter's question on whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "playing politics" regarding the Israel-Hamas war. President Biden replied, " I don't think so. He's trying to work out a serious problem that he has."

Dr. Fauci Testifies on U.S. Response to COVID-19 Pandemic
