Following the meeting, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell held a news conference to discuss the decision. He also spoke about what conditions would warrant a future rate cut in 2024. The Federal Reserve began increasing the rate back in March 2022 to address high inflation. The Federal Open Market Committee, tasked with implementing rate hikes or rate cuts and other monetary policy actions, will meet again May 30 to April 1 to analyze economic conditions and data.
