36 minutesBritish Prime Minister Theresa May delivered a statement announcing the start of formal negotiations for the U.K. to leave the European Union, commonly known as Brexit. The Prime Minister told members it was an "historic moment" for the U.K. and there was no turning back. Scottish National Party's parliamentary leader Angus Robertson took issue with the Brexit process, saying the negotiations will not unify the United Kingdom. Back in June 2016, Scotland voted to stay in the EU. The Scottish government is pursuing a second independence vote to leave the United Kingdom.

HSE ARMED - Middle East Security

Joseph Votel testified before the House Armed Services Committee announcing that the military has launched an investigation to determine if the U.S. was responsible for recent civilian casualties in Mosul, Iraq. He acknowledged that the military has not relaxed the rules of engagement. In addition, Gen. Votel agreed with the assessment previously made by Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, the senior U.S. commander in Iraq, that U.S.-led airstrikes "probably had a role" in civilian casualties in Mosul. Gen. Votel also addressed the various security challenges in the Middle East saying Iran poses the greatest long term threat to stability in the region.
