State Department Officials Testify on Russia Before Senate Foreign Relations

Fourth Circuit Emoluments Oral Arguments
2 hours, 54 minutesFifteen judges of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in two lawsuits filed by the District of Columbia and Maryland that claim President Trump violated the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, which bars presidents from receiving gifts from foreign or state governments while in office. The lawsuits argued that the president illegally profited from foreign dignitaries and officials staying at the Trump Hotel. A three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit previously found that DC and Maryland did not have standing to bring these lawsuits. This decision will determine whether the lawsuits can move forward.

Texas v. United States Health Care Law Oral Argument
1 hour, 47 minutesA three-judge panel out of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans has ruled the health care law individual mandate unconstitutional. The court heard oral argument for the State of Texas et al. v. United States et al., back in July 2019 and considered whether the law is invalid after Congress in 2017, under the GOP tax law, repealed the individual mandate penalty. Judge Jennifer Elrod had the opinion for the court and said "it can no longer be read as a tax, and there is no other constitutional provision that justifies this exercise of congressional power." Judge Carol King dissented and would've dismissed the case all together. She wrote, "I would vacate the district court's order because none of the plaintiffs have standing to challenge the coverage requirement. And although I would not reach the merits or remedial issues, if I did, I would conclude that the coverage requirement is constitutional, albeit unenforceable, and entirely severable from the remainder of the Afford
