Garnier, a case on whether two California school board members can block people from their public and official Facebook accounts. Michelle O'Connor-Ratcliffe and T.J. Zane are school board members with the Poway Unified School District (PUSD) in San Diego. After their election, they each created new Facebook accounts for their positions. On these constituents could comment or react to postings with emojis. Christopher Garnier and his wife, parents of children in the PUSD, posted lengthy and at times repetitive comments on their accounts. The school board members began deleting or hiding some posts. Later they also blocked them. The Garniers filed a suit alleging their First Amendment rights were violated. They won at both the district court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The school board members appealed to the nation's highest court and the justices now have through June 2024 to issue a ruling.
