2020 Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) participated in a debate at CNN's studios in Washington, DC. The debate was the first in the 2020 cycle without a studio audience because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic affecting the U.S. and other nations. The first hour of the debate focused on the spread of the disease and efforts to stop it. Later, the two candidates discussed a range of other issues, including health care, foreign policy and women's rights. The debate was co-hosted by Spanish-language broadcaster Univision.

Topics touched on included disinformation, trusted sources of information and public-private partnerships.

At the start, President Trump announced new coronavirus response guidelines which call on Americans to avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, avoid discretionary travel, work or engage in schooling from home, when possible, and avoid eating and drinking in bars, restaurants and public food courts. The president also talked about the impact of the coronavirus on the U.S. economy and said the outbreak could last until July or August.
New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) announced that his state, along with Connecticut and New Jersey are taking regional action to prevent the spread of the virus. Starting 8 p.m. Monday night, movie theaters and casinos will close in all three states, and restaurants and bars can only deliver meals or allow customers to carry out their orders. Grocery stores will remain open. From Albany, New York this runs about an hour.

Officials at the Defense Department held a news conference on the coronavirus response. Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Jonathan Hoffman updated reporters on the latest numbers around the coronavirus outbreak and how it was impacting the department and service members. He said 495 tests had been done and a total of 18 service members tested positive with coronavirus.
