Federal Reserve Chair Powell Holds News Conference

He said the current rate of 5.25% to 5.5% was likely at its peak and that it would probably be lowered later this year if the economy continued to evolve as expected. Though he celebrated the overall state of the U.S. economy, Mr. Powell cautioned that the economic outlook remains uncertain as the Fed aims to lower inflation to a target rate of 2%. The Federal Open Market Committee, the body that decides interest rate policy, meets next on March 19-20.
