A few days after this debate, members passed a resolution stating that it "strongly condemns the appalling death of George Floyd in the United States, as well as similar murders elsewhere in the world".

Supreme Court Oral Argument on Louisiana Admitting Privileges Law for Abortion Providers
1 hour, 1 minuteIn a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the facility where the procedure is done. Justice Stephen Breyer wrote the majority opinion joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. Chief Justice John Roberts also in the majority authored a concurring opinion. Justice Clarence dissented along with Justices Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. The court heard oral argument in March 2020. Under the Louisiana law, physicians who violate it would face penalties including prison time, fines, losing their license to practice and civil liabilities. Prior to the law taking effect in 2014, the state's two out of six physicians who perform abortions filed suit and argued the law violated their due process rights and also their patients right to an abortion. House Subcommittee Briefing on Violence Against Protesters & Journalists

Speakers included protesters and journalists who were shot by police during peaceful demonstrations, including LaToya Ratlieff, great-niece of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, who described being shot in the face with rubber bullets by police. Rep. Raskin (D-MD), who chairs the subcommittee, also commented on the actions of the National Guard against protesters convening near the White House on June 1. In his opening remarks, he said the president's actions at St. John's Church that evening amid the violence against protesters,was the "most grotesque photo op in the history of the United States."
