IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel testified at an oversight hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee. Topics included child tax credit implementation, child support enforcement, disparities in the tax system, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in auditing tax returns. In addition, credentialling tax preparers, corporate fraud, and earned income tax credits fraud were discussed.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) participated in a fireside chat hosted by the Detroit Economic Club. Secretary Yellen said the overall state of the U.S. economy was "very strong," citing a historic unemployment rate, strong economic growth and productivity, and a labor market that was "the envy of the world." She added that inflation was trending downward, despite minor fluctuations. Moreover, Ms. Yellen said if she could have lunch with any person, living or dead, it would be English economist John Maynard Keynes, whom she said had a lasting impact on economics.

During the White House briefing Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre gave remarks on the Kansas City shooting and the shootings in both Washington, DC and Atlanta, Georgia. She also expressed the president's urging of Congress to act and discussed what President Biden is doing to reduce gun violence in America. National Security Communication Adviser John Kirby also updated reporters on an unspecified possible national security threat. Kirby says the so-called "national threat" involves an anti-satellite capability being developed by Russia and this is "not an active capability" by Russian forces. The White House says it does not foresee an immediate threat to national security.

She's being accused of having a romantic relationship with one of the special prosecutors in the case, Nathan Wade. Attorneys for former President Trump and the other defendants are trying to get her removed from the case.
